What do patients say about Matt Carlisle?
Matt graduated from Utah State University in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. After spending two years on a religious mission, Matt fell in love with helping others and decided to change his career path from engineering to human services.
While at USU, Matt began working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), working primarily with children diagnosed with Autism. Ever since that job, Matt knew he wanted to become a family therapist to help families in need. He enjoys working with all families and children, especially those who have disabilities.
Matt also has experience working as a caseworker for the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS). While working for DCFS, Matt has gained invaluable experience and insight into the importance of family functioning and parent-child relationships.
Learning and growing is one of Matt’s highest priorities when it comes to professional development. Matt specializes in Motivational Interviewing, Gottman Method couple’s therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Family Systems Theory. With Matt’s knowledge and background of working with children with Autism, Matt specializes in helping those families work through the additional stressors of having a child with Autism (and other disabilities).
His mental health journey is a large motivator to become a therapist, and he wants to help others. Because of this, he has learned the importance of self-care and boundaries. He makes sure to schedule time to do something he enjoys every day, which helps him relax and distance himself from the craziness of life. He prioritizes spending time with family and friends, as they help provide him with meaning and purpose in life. Lastly, he is a strong believer that progression is the key to a happy and meaningful life, which means he is always striving to be better, learn a new skill, or create something with his hands to feel progress in his life.
He feels as if he is a jack of all trades but a master of none. He thrives when participating in his hobbies, which include sports (golf, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and many more), music (playing multiple instruments and writing my compositions), and learning to be a better cook. Most importantly, his all-time favorite activity is spending time with his wife and newborn child.
He has always had a passion for writing and finds that this form of self-expression helps him process and heal during challenging times. Additionally, nature has always been his happy place and he finds himself in constant awe of the sunsets, sunrises, trees, and animals all around him. He finds inspiration outdoors and believes this helps him stay grounded by appreciating the life and world around him.
