My therapeutic approach and philosophy:
Troy was introduced to the mental health field when he started working at a residential treatment center. After working with teens for numerous years, he decided to attend Utah State University, where he completed his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Troy has experience working with anxiety, depression, mania, ADHD, family issues, and teen/parent issues.  He enjoys working with teens and up, as well as couples and families.  Troy is trained in marriage and family systems and enjoys helping others discover better ways of connection and communication.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, Troy was trained in systems approach, which takes into consideration family and social circles around the individual.  This systems perspective helps shift the view of how we look at problems and solutions.  He enjoys helping relationships work through the difficult to get to a healthy place.

Troy has been trained in EMDR trauma therapy and the Gottman approach to working with couples.
When problems feel big, I admit to myself that they probably are big.  Which means they will still be there if I take a break before addressing them.  I force myself to grab a bite to eat to fuel my brain.  Next, I get in some kind of physical activity (just get the body moving, walk a couple flights of stairs or step outside). Lastly, I take a deep breath and face the problem, knowing I have prepared myself as best I can to address it.
I love outdoor activities and endurance sports, my favorite of which is mountain biking.  If I’m breathing hard, I’m present and happy.
“I believe in finding balance between your physical/ mental/ social/ and spiritual self.  Using the Biopsychosocial-Spiritual (BPSS) approach helps by making small but meaningful steps towards getting to a more empowered state of self.”
