What lead Emmy to her career in mental health counseling?

Emmy earned her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University – Hawaii, where her experiences within the diverse and close-knit island community inspired her to pursue a career in social work.  Being a part of a community that valued connection, service, and healing opened her eyes to the meaningful impact of helping others.  Her time there, feeling grounded by the earth, renewed by the sun, and energized by the people around her, sparked a desire to share that sense of hope and wholeness with others.  This passion ultimately led her to the field of therapy where she brings warmth, presence, and a deep respect for each client’s unique path.

What work experience and populations does Emmy serve?

Emmy has experience working in a variety of settings, including a postpartum therapy clinic where she supported women navigating the challenges of motherhood and deepened her understanding of women’s mental health.  She has also worked with children and adolescents in school settings and group homes, providing both individual and group support.  Currently, Emmy works in a behavioral health unit within a medical setting, where she continues to expand her skills in crisis care and integrated treatment.  She is especially passionate about supporting women in their health journeys, working with children, and helping to strengthen family connections.

What areas does Emmy specialize in?

Emmy specializes in women’s mental health, particularly in supporting individuals as they navigate significant life transitions and phases of personal growth.  She also has a strong interest in working with children, finding their resilience and unique perspectives both inspiring and meaningful to her work.  Emmy has received specific training in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care, which she integrates into her approach across all populations she serves.  Her practice is rooted in compassion, connection, and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience.

What techniques do I use to achieve my own positive mental health?

To support my own mental health, I find joy in simple, grounding practices – like driving with the windows down while listening to music, soaking up the sun, and having meaningful conversations with people I care about.  Moving my body through exercise also helps me feel centered and strong.  These small but powerful rituals help me stay connected to myself and bring a sense of balance to my life.

My hobbies, interests, and fun facts about me:

When I’m not working, you can find me soaking up the sun, roller skating, or catching waves on a surfboard when I get the chance!  I love staying active, whether it’s a good workout, a hike in the mountains, or just dancing around the house.  I’m also all about slowing down with meditation and meaningful time with my family.  One of my favorite traditions is going to Dodger games with my husband!  I love meeting people who share passions for travel, sunshine, movement, and making the most of life’s little joys.

My therapeutic approach and philosophy:

“My therapeutic approach is rooted in being a present and active listener, really hearing people and meeting them exactly where they are.  I believe in creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and grounded in empathy.  I also bring a spiritual and intuitive lens to my work, tuning into the energy each person brings and helping them reconnect with their own inner strength and clarity.  My goal is to walk alongside clients as they heal, grow, and move forward in ways that feel authentic to them.”
