Alex has learned from a wise clinician that meaningful psychotherapy is about thinking and speaking the truth in ways we can rarely do elsewhere. He believes that the courage to do so is best accomplished within an emotionally meaningful relationship. To accomplish this, he provides dynamic, interactive, and personalized treatment. He works in a genuine relationship to help people understand themselves better and more effectively pursue what they want in life.
Alex began his path toward counseling by mentoring youth while earning his bachelor’s degree in behavioral science. Alex graduated from Adams State University with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. His passion for psychology began as a young man drawn to theories of existentialism and an appreciation for the questions of meaning in life.
Alex has four years of experience working as a clinical assistant practicing exposure therapy, helping to treat people with OCD, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety. He also has experience as a therapist, providing child and family therapy for attachment issues and developmental trauma. Alex enjoys working with people of all ages who are seeking a facilitating environment and relationship to help them discover and live out their potential.
He takes a mind-body approach to maintaining and developing his well-being. A mind-body connection means better self-connection and connection to others. Recognition and integration of the divided parts of the self are sources of healing and growth.
Alex specializes in working with anxiety disorders (OCD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, body dysmorphic disorder), depression and grief, addictions, trauma and attachment issues. Treatment for every individual is personalized. Depending on age and treatment needs, his approach may include:
• ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention)
• TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
• DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
• Child-Centered Play Therapy
In addition to understanding the life of the mind, I take great interest in both writing and reading literature, poetry, and philosophy. I enjoy art in its many forms and have a deep appreciation for nature and being active in the outdoors.
