What led Alex to their career in counseling?

Alex graduated from Adams State University with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. His passion in working as a psychotherapist derives from living an examined life.

What work experience and populations does Alex serve?

Alex has experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings, some of which include specialized focus in exposure therapy for treating anxiety disorders such as OCD. He also has experience as a therapist providing child and family therapy for attachment issues and developmental trauma.

His current experience is in working from a psychodynamic perspective, which is a comprehensive approach to understanding the psychological complexity of the individual. He may draw from other approaches that will best suit the individual. Alex enjoys working with people of all ages who are seeking meaningful change and helping them to discover and live out their potential.

What areas does Alex specialize in?

Alex specializes in working with anxiety disorders (OCD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, body dysmorphic disorder), depression and grief, addictions, trauma, and attachment issues. Treatment for every individual is personalized. Depending on age and treatment needs, his approach may include:

• Psychodynamic
• ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention)
• TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
• DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
• Child-Centered Play Therapy

What techniques do I use to achieve positive mental health:

I take a mind-body approach to maintaining and developing my own well-being. A mind-body connection means better self-connection and connection to others. Recognition and integration of the divided parts of the self is a source of healing and growth.

My hobbies, interests, and fun facts about me:

In addition to understanding the life of the mind, I take great interest in writing and reading literature, poetry, and philosophy. I enjoy art in its many forms and have a deep appreciation for nature and being active in the outdoors.

My therapeutic approach and philosophy:

I have learned from a wise clinician that meaningful psychotherapy is about thinking and speaking the truth in ways we can rarely do elsewhere. I believe that the courage to do so is best accomplished within an emotionally meaningful relationship. To accomplish this, I provide dynamic, interactive, personalized treatment. I work within a genuine relationship to help people understand themselves better and to pursue more effectively what they want in life.
