Kathryn got her bachelor’s degree in social work from Utah Valley University. Currently, she is studying social work at the University of Kentucky and will get her master’s degree in the spring of 2024. Kathryn has always been drawn to helping people, but over her life and her experience in the field, she has seen a growing need for people who understand and have empathy for those who are struggling with mental health and trauma.
Kathryn has worked in mental health positions, both working with clients and as a coordinator for a mental health initiative. Seeing the different sides of mental health and working with mental health advocates has given her a unique perspective on not only the individual’s mental health but also how their environment can affect them. She has spent most of her time in the mental health field working with teens, both in groups and one-on-one. Most recently, she had an internship at Provo Canyon Behavioral Hospital working with a women’s trauma group, where she found a passion for working with women and focusing on trauma in all age groups.
Kathryn has been trained and is knowledgeable in the field of mental health. She is a strategic thinker and is skilled in using an individual’s strengths in their healing journey.
On her journey of healing and mental health, she has learned that self-compassion and self-love are so important. Going easy on ourselves and showing ourselves empathy can make all the difference. She has learned that healing takes time, and although we often just want to rush through the process and be done with it, it usually does not go that way. For many, this process can be very scary, but with the right tools, support, and help, we can make more progress than we thought possible. As she looks back on her mental health and healing journey, she can’t help but feel proud of how far it has taken her. It felt so slow-moving at times, but now she sees that the persistence that she had paid off and will continue to pay off.
She loves trying new things and learning new skills. This usually takes the form of different kinds of art. She likes to watercolor and paint. She is learning pottery and has recently started trying embroidery. She also has a passion for plants, flowers, and nature. She loves to be outside and go on walks and hikes with her husband. She also enjoys reading, and her favorite way to unwind is with a hot cup of tea!
She believes that therapy is an opportunity to grow and learn about yourself. Life can wear us down, whether that is because of mental health, trauma, or other struggles. She believes that through therapy, we can learn more about ourselves and the inner strength that we have. She aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for her clients through a trauma-informed background and a needs-based approach. Understanding her clients and putting herself in their shoes is a personal priority that she has. She hopes to empower her clients and remind each individual of the unique strengths that they have and how they can use those to meet the goals they set for themselves. In your healing process, she hopes to give you a set of tools that you can use moving forward to help you navigate life more easily.
