Kathryn got her bachelor’s degree in social work from Utah Valley University. Currently, she is studying Social Work at the University of Kentucky and will finish her master’s degree in the Spring of 2024. Kathryn has always been drawn to helping people, but over her life and her experience in the field, she has seen a growing need for people who understand and have empathy for those who are struggling with mental health and trauma.
Kathryn has worked in mental health positions both working with clients and as a coordinator for a mental health initiative. Seeing the different sides of mental health and working with mental health advocates has given her a unique perspective of not only individual mental health but also how their environment can affect them. She has spent most of her time in the mental health field working with teens both in groups and one on one. Most recently she had an internship at Provo Canyon Behavioral Hospital working with a women’s trauma group where she found a passion for working with women and focusing on trauma in all age groups.

On my own journey of healing and mental health, I have learned that self-compassion and self-love is so important. Going easy on ourselves and showing ourselves empathy can make all the difference. I have learned that healing takes time and although we often just want to rush through the process and be done with it, it usually does not go that way. For many this process can be very scary but with the right tools, support, and help, we can make more progress than we thought possible. As I look back on my mental health and healing journey, I can’t help but feel proud of how far it has taken me. It felt so slow moving at times but now I see that the persistence that I had paid off and will continue to pay off.
I love trying new things and learning new skills. This usually is in the form of different kinds of art. I like to watercolor and paint, I am learning pottery and recently have started trying embroidery. I also have a passion for plants, flowers, and nature. I love to be outside and go on walks and hikes with my husband. I also enjoy reading and my favorite way to unwind is with a hot cup of tea!
I believe that therapy is an opportunity to grow and learn about yourself. Life can wear us down, whether that is because of mental health, trauma, or other struggles. I believe that through therapy we can learn more about ourselves and the inner strength that we have. I aim to create a safe and comfortable environment for my clients through a trauma-informed background and needs-based approach. Understanding my clients and putting myself in their shoes is a personal priority that I have. I hope to empower my clients and remind them of the unique strengths that they have and how they can use those to meet the goals they set for themselves. In your healing process, I hope to give you a set of tools that you can use moving forward to help you navigate life more easily.
